Purity Standards at Amrita Aromatherapy

Botanical purity is the only the first step in sourcing Amrita essential oils. At Amrita, gas chromatographic analysis with chiral columns is used, as the most reliable tool for selecting only oils that are 100% from the botanical species indicated. The botanical species is listed on the label of each oil as further guarantee that the oil comes 100% from the species, is not cut with cheaper oils or synthetics and particularly not cut with nature identical compounds, which is otherwise a common practice in essential oil production.

More than 95% of all essential oils today are produced for the flavor and fragrance industry. This industry is not in need of a natural product. Therefore, most often these oils are not pure but reconstituted with nature identical compounds from synthetic origin. These are not the quality of oils to be used in aromatherapy. Industrial oils, even if they would be pure, usually are not distilled with the care needed for aromatherapy purposes.

When an oil fulfills the first criteria of purity, there are a significant number of other parameters that can make or break the quality of an essential oil and and its usefulness for aromatherapy.

For example Chamomile even when pure and unadulterated may not have much therapeutic value if the content of anti-inflammatory compounds is low. Genetic constitution of the plant, climate and farming methods can make or break the composition of the oil and therefore its quality.

Amrita prefers to obtain essential oils from wild-crafted and certified organic sources. A plant that has been growing in its natural ecological habitat, to which it has adapted over millions of years, quite often has the most valuable composition.

At Amrita we ensure that each oil we offer meets the standards of purity and quality as it is described here.
